Shelly Martin has it pretty good. He owns a half-way decent hotel in downtown Kansas City and lives there with his poker playing buddies and his memories of the heyday of the Kansas City jazz scene. When the granddaughter he never knew he has shows up at his doorstep homeless, penniless and six months pregnant, it sets off a chain of events which involves all the classic elements of farce – confused identities, cons, ambushes and outrageous lies. Spirit Gum is characters wit real character, crisp, very funny dialogue and lot of glorious mayhem. It even has a live chicken!
