A Doll’s House
January 8, 2010 - January 10, 2010
If you have ever taken any sort of literature or dramatic literature course there is a good chance you are familiar with Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. When the show opened for the first time in Denmark in 1879 it was a highly controversial piece. In an age where women were little more than dolls for their fathers and husbands, it was a show that sharply criticized the standards and social norms present at the time. Although A Doll’s House specifically targets Victorian social standards, its content is universal and timeless. “A woman cannot be herself in modern society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess female conduct from a male standpoint.” Henrik Ibsen
