This premiere Live Theater in Southwest Kansas has been in the business of entertaining locals and visitors alike since it was first founded at the Boot Hill Museum Complex in 1984. The company was originally housed in the east end building on the Boot Hill Museum boardwalk, the Occident/Old House Saloon building. Funny Money was the final company show at Boot Hill Museum in March 1996.
The company moved to the Homestead Theater in 1996, located east of the Santa Fe Depot. The west half of the building was originally constructed as dormitory for the “Harvey Girls” that worked in Harvey Restaurant and Hotel in the Depot. The old dormitory became prop and costume storage for the company. The mid-century addition to the east, formerly the Elks Lodge, became the Homestead Theater and the company’s new home.
In 1996 Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad donated the 1889 Santa Fe Depot to the City of Dodge City. Years of grant writing and research culminated in a plan to restore the depot, and build on a new state or the art theater for the company.
In July of 2004, after 8 years of restoration and construction the company moved into the new theater. The first production in the new space was Anyone Can Whistle. Today, the company continues to provide Broadway-style entertainment in Southwest Kansas.

The Depot Theater Guild is the support arm of the Depot Theater.
Mission and Purpose
The Depot Theater Guild works to
— enhance the awareness and assist in the goals of the Depot Theater as a community theater group;
— to stimulate interest in the dramatic arts through involvement in education, productions, programs and travel;
— hosting annual fundraisers to assist the company in providing quality theater;
— working together to ensure the success of theater in Dodge City and the surrounding area.
Membership in the guild is open to anyone who enjoys theater and is interested in the betterment of the community through involvement in the arts. As supporting players, the Guild volunteers help bring the theater to life. Members are vitally important because of their assistance during fundraisers and their support of theater events. Dues are $20 per individual per year. The membership year is July 1 – June 30 and members can join at any time.

Annual Guild Events
5×5 Art Auction: Held annually at 5:55 on May 5. The art auction features unique pieces, all crafted from a 5-inch by 5-inch canvas. Mouthwatering appetizers will be prepared by the theater kitchen and the cash bar will be available, serving a wide range of wines and beers. Holiday Tables: Held annually in November, the Holiday Tables Event features a festive array of themed table settings. Also, a boutique of homemade items, cakes, pies, cookies, and more. A great way to get into the holiday spirit! Call (620) 339-1840 for details.
